Become a Leader of Change

Become a Leader of Change

Are you someone who waits passively for things to change, or are you someone that breaks the status quo, causing things to change, and impacting lots of people in a positive way?

If you are a person in the former, then read this article in order to learn how you can be the person in the latter and become a catalyst of change.

You may be thinking to yourself that you’re just a leader of a small organisation and that nothing you do has any significant impact on the world. Well, quite frankly, you’re wrong. You do not need to be a person of great power to be a catalyst of change. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, catalyst means an agent that provokes or speeds significant change or action. It can also be a person who initiates, manages, and leads change. It doesn’t say that having power is a requirement. You just need to believe in yourself, then act on it.

One important trait of being a catalyst of change is the ability to see what the future lies ahead. It is having a great set of eyes to see potential in the future, if you instigate a positive change in the present. As a leader, you should apply this to your people. See your people’s true potential and the amazing things that they can do with their skills and capabilities and develop them. Nurture them so that they can become the person that they want to be.

A catalyst leader should look at challenges as opportunities. It’s easier said than done, but as a catalyst of positive change, you should have an optimistic mindset. You cannot attract positive things if you put yourself in a negative frame of mind. You must see every setback as an opportunity for you to develop yourself and become a person your people can look up to and trust.

As a leader of change, do not be afraid of criticism. It’s good to welcome them so that it will be easier for you to make the necessary changes in order to become a better leader. People’s critiques are what they perceive about you that you cannot see for yourself. Sure, it may be hard to accept at first, but if you open your mind to it and acknowledge these criticisms, you’ll grow and develop yourself even further.

Leaders and catalysts are not born; they are made. They possess the ability to maintain an open mind about change and what it might bring. So, don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. Challenging it can produce a positive impact on people. Prepare for the future and recognise the need for change. Believe in your potential and the potential of others and become a leader of change!
